Minnesota International Adoptee Needs Assessment

AdopSource will be conducting a needs assessment that aims to address issues relating to ethnic and racial identity and adoptee awareness. This needs assessment will engage and research adoptee individuals and their families; and conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis on international adoptees’ experiences and unmet needs. From this data, we can design appropriate community-based services to meet their needs.
Activities for this needs assessment:
Activities for this needs assessment:
- Conduct a statewide outreach and needs assessment for adoptees and their families through:
-Online survey
-Statewide focus groups
-One on one interviews - Create a documentary (Voices of Adoption) and book (HERE TOO) on personal stories, adoptee organizations, and the study.
- Hold a special event to release findings.
- Publish a final report
- Outline services in detail and define unmet needs for adoptees and their families.
- Provide a curriculum for adoption agencies, adoptive families, and adoptee themselves. The curriculum may take the form of a video, storybook curriculum, demographics, survey tool, learning materials for discussion and small group activities.
Goals:
- Broaden the understanding of adoptees and their place within the greater community.
- Learn about the issues that are affecting the adoptee community and how they can be overcome (Results from the needs assessment project would shape AdopSource’s future community-based services for international adoptees and their families.)
- Dispel stereotypes, misinformation, and racial bias.
- Celebrate diversity and create an inclusive culture.
